When fishing during the spring or fall for trout, the angler needs to be educated so as not to do irreparable harm to the spawning fish. In this video we teach you how to identify spawning fish and their redds (spawning beds where they lay their eggs), we help you identify which fish are ok to target and which to avoid, how to handle and release fish after they’ve been caught, and a few of our favorite fly fishing rigs for fishing during and immediately after the spawn. Used with permission from Ascent Fly Fishing.
October through December is the season for spawning Brown trout. In fact, on the Snake River, the spawn has started with visual evidence seen on October 4th. While spawning Browns below the Falls is common place, there is sporadic spawning by Browns above the Falls, specifically in the area of the Foot Bridge-Big Sandy Reach. So, please, tread carefully this fall:-)
