If you are inexperienced at driving on McKelvie National Forest, I suggest a high clearance, 4-wheel drive pickup or SUV. A two wheel drive will get stuck, and a sedan or crossover will get high centered. If you are unfamiliar with the trails, I would take two vehicles with equipment to pull one another out. The trails change with every rain storm or windy day. Go the first time with someone who has been there before.

If you travel over to McKelvie National Forest, you should always carry a small shovel, a high-jack & a few short lengths of 2×6 board.
